Still Water Lake House
on Portage Lake Haliburton Cottage Rental Overview

Overview

Still Water Lake House on Portage Lake Haliburton – the perfect family getaway!

Escape to nature, bring the friends, bring the family – there is room for everyone at Stillwater Lakehouse. Perched on the shores of South Portage Lake, on just over 1 acre, with 160 feet of waterfront, it is ideally located for enjoying the activities Haliburton Highlands has to offer. From kayaking, canoeing, swimming in the lake, lounging on the dock, hiking the area trails, to touring nearby breweries, visiting the wolf sanctuary, or snowmobiling, dogsledding, x-country skiing on picturesque trails or downhill skiing at Sir Sam’s. Your time at Stillwater Lakehouse can be as relaxing or as active as you choose to make it.

While some will rise early to enjoy a morning paddle or a coffee on the dock when there is still a mist on the lake, others will opt to sleep in and enjoy the creature comforts in this spectacular setting.

The Space
The house sleeps 12, offers space and comforts which will ensure everyone has an enjoyable stay. With huge windows, cathedral ceiling and gorgeous lake views from each of the 3 levels, 2 king size beds, 2 queen size beds, and a bedroom with bunk beds, along with 3 separate sitting areas – allowing as much being together or apart as is preferred, everyone is sure to enjoy their stay. The board games, and the ping pong table on the lower level are great for some friendly competition and spending time together. The well-equipped open concept kitchen is an inviting spot for everyone, whether participating in the cooking or BBQ, or simply there for company and sampling. The harvest table, which seats 12, is a perfect spot for meals for the whole group, making memories and relishing in the day’s experiences. In the evenings, cozy up in front of the fireplace or wood stove, or grab a blanket and head out to the deck chairs to gaze at the stars.
South Portage Lake is a quiet private non-boating lake (electric motor boats are allowed). The shoreline offers both a gently sloping area, as well as deep water off the dock, the water is clear and there are no weeds whatsoever. This is an ideal spot for swimming or paddling in the 2 kayaks and 2 canoes available for use. The breathtaking sunsets tend to draw the whole crowd down to the dock. The fire pit is a great destination for all ages, whether making s’mores or simply enjoying the quiet of the night by the fire under the big sky.

We advise winter renters to have 4 wheel drive as Stillwater Lakehouse driveway is sloped and tends to ice over. It is recommended they park at the top of the driveway near the road to prevent from getting stuck. During the summer 4 wheel drive is also advisable when the road is slick from rain.
The location of Stillwater Lakehouse is convenient with Haliburton village only 10 minutes away, offering 2 grocery stores, 2 drugstores, LCBO and a Beer Store, as well as coffee shops and restaurants.

This is an absolutely beautiful and spacious cottage!

This is absolutely beautiful and spacious cottage – with all amenities good for a group of 14 and we had multiple age groups (crib, high chair, fooseball, etc.) Have a nice high ceiling conversation room, stocked up kitchen and sufficient beds, games and entertainment in basement and most beautiful of all were the views (lake, fall colors), lakeside seating and canoe, kayaks and paddle board to enjoy nature. Communication was great and loved the detailed notes that made things easier to refer to. Not that anything was negative for us, but consider number of stairs after parking car – could be tiring for moving luggage for short stays. Also, try coordinates to locate. Google maps takes you to Stop sign and then you have to follow numbers to get to location. I would definitely visit again and recommend to enjoy this beautiful gem.

Great Property

A lovely loved in feel to a cottage that comfortably fits a large party. There are far too many steps for anyone with knee or back issues to enjoy the lake and the bunkie is in great need of attention to truly qualify as an additional sleep space. Appropriate for teens through to fit middle aged but no small kids and no seniors. The limitations of the space need to be made clearer in ad.

Great open space cottage with lots of room for all of us. Very easy to book. Quite cluttered. Lots of old and battered items everywhere. Very steep driveway that was difficult to navigate once it rained. Lovely property that just needs some TLC. Overall a good stay.

Highly recommended!!

Our stay was for 3 days and 2 nights. Upon arrival, the instructions were just as described and very easy to enter. Our group had a great time using all amenities provided and the fire pit and dock make for some great photos. Be ready to fish as there are plenty of great chances ahead !! One thing to remember bring mosquito spray and a lot of it !! I would recommend this cottage for anyone interested.

Excellent visit!

Ross and his team were quick to respond to any questions we had. The cottage was homey – especially the main living room area. It was great that there was lots of firewood available for us to use without having to chop anything up ourselves. Our group appreciated all the watercrafts that were available for use.
